Mike Einziger
Guitar

Birth Date:
June 21, 1976

Birth Place:
Tarzana, CA

Height:
5'5 ½.". That half-inch is very important to me.

Musically, what are your passions?
I love the orchestra, and I love Björk. She gives me goose bumps. She's from Iceland, and she's just amazing, and actually she has a lot of orchestral instruments in her music—a lot of strings and stuff like that. I just—I identify with it. And Santana, too.

What turns you on about being a rock musician?
Just being able to play music for my job. It's what I love to do, and I would do it whether or not I made money doing it.

What turns you off?
There are things that can be irritating, but if I started to go into them, I would just sound like a selfish little prick. I appreciate everything that I've had so far and every experience I've had.

Best concert experience:
I was infatuated with Michael Jackson when I was a little kid. And The Jackson 5. They played everything, and it was just an amazing concert. I was with my parents; they took me. I was really bummed out, though, because I had one of those little Michael Jackson leather jackets with the zippers, and my parents wouldn't let me wear it, 'cause they thought I'd catch a cold. They didn't think it was warm enough. Oh my God, can you imagine being six years old, going to a Michael Jackson concert, and not being able to wear your jacket? Your Michael Jackson jacket?! I was so pissed, but I loved the concert nonetheless.

What's your most memorable experience on the road?
One time, before we had a tour bus and people who set-up our equipment and stuff for us, we used to drive around in a van, and we used to drive it ourselves. We had no crew, no tour manager, or anything. We drove from Boston to Seattle straight, without stopping, except for gas and to eat a couple times. We needed to catch a plane, because we had a show in Hawaii—from Seattle to Hawaii. And just doing that drive, all of us, it was like a team.

Favorite lyric from a song:
A song by Björk called "Come To Me." Every time I hear it, I just cry. It's amazing.

What kind of woman turns you on?
Someone who's first and foremost intelligent . . . and beautiful. Looks are way too important to me, but you know, I get myself into trouble with stuff like that. Somebody with a sense of humor, who's funny, and just likes to have a good time and doesn't over-analyze things, 'cause I'm not very patient with people who are high-maintenance. High-maintenance girls—turn-off. Big turn-off.

Whose music do you listen to when you’re with someone special?
Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. It's the most romantic music there is. I grew up listening to that stuff. It makes me feel really good. It's something I'm very familiar with.

Describe a perfect date?
What I always dream about is going to Fiji with the girl of my dreams.

If a woman _______, it really turns me off. Fill in the blank.
It's so easy for me to get turned-off. So easy. Going back to what I said before about the high-maintenance thing, if a woman's like, "Oh my God, my hair doesn't look right. I can't go out." Yeah, that turns me off. I like a girl to be confident in herself. That's a turn-on for me.

Favorite pick-up line:
I never use pick-up lines.

Favorite line someone has used on you:
That shirt is very becoming on you. Of course, if I were on you, I'd be coming, too.

If you required mouth-to-mouth, whose mouth would you like to breathe life back into you?
Kerissa [Fare, Miss September 2000].

If food were the way to a woman's heart, what food would you cook up in the kitchen?
Italian food. It just rules.

If a song could sum you up as a man, what would it be?
There are certain songs that I just really, really identify with, for some reason. Like the song "Walking On The Moon," by The Police. I love that song.

Define "gig butt."
It's something that I'm fortunate enough to have never experienced. I've heard it from the old-timers—seasoned tour veterans. Supposedly when you're traveling a lot, you get hemorrhoids, or something like that. That's what I've been told.

What does "sex and rock 'n' roll" mean to you?
Sex is one of the most beautiful [experiences]. I don’t know if I relate to rock 'n' roll that much. Rock 'n' roll, to me, is like excessive behavior, actually. You know what? I'm not an angel like they told you.

What's something you've always wanted to do?
An orchestral score for a movie. For a really cool movie—some big, epic adventure or some weird horror flick. Something like that.
